LIVE AT THE JOLLY ROGER ROADHOUSE
With Paul deLay, Isaac Scott, Curtis Salgado, Lloyd Jones & Tom McFarland
(CRCD-02)

Recorded live at Seattle’s famed but now defunct Jolly Roger Roadhouse, this long-out-of-print collection features the best blues in the Pacific Northwest and pays tribute to three huge talents who are no longer with us.

Legendary vocalist and harmonica player Paul deLay contributes the raucous “Tiger In My Tank,” “Nothing to Go On,” and “Who’ll Be the Next.” Seattle great Isaac Scott offers “Wrapped Up in Love,” “Same Old Blues,” and the rollicking “I Don’t Know.” And West Coast star Tom McFarland delivers “Doghouse Blues” and “I Am a Witness.” The Northwest blues scene isn’t the same without them.

This seminal recording also features the all-star band In Yo’ Face, featuring Curtis Salgado on the soulful “I Got to Find a Way,” who teamed up with Brown Sugar singer-guitarist Lloyd Jones in this band, who sings “Cryin’ Won’t Help You.”

The CD was recorded live Feb. 8-12, 1984, at the historic Jolly Roger Roadhouse, a former Prohibition-era speakeasy formerly named the China Castle. The Jolly Roger became a thriving restaurant, lounge and blues headquarters for players and fans from all over North America. The club later burned to the ground under mysterious circumstances. Rumor has it that when it’s quiet out on Lake City Way, you can still hear a 12-bar slow blues burning in the night.
