DK Stewart Former keyboard player for the Robert Cray Band and the Paul deLay Band, D.K. Stewart went solo and released his first project, The Sun Valley Sessions, in 1989. Stewart produced this recording in 1985 while touring with the deLay Band, which found itself in Ketchum, Idaho, at the Sun Valley Studios. It’s a powerful and raw “live in the studio” effort that shows a creative bandleader in the making at the beginning of D.K.’s solo career. Using the talents of guitarist Jim Mesi, bassist Don Campbell, Paul Jones on drums, and the saxophone and arranging talents of Chris Mercer, Stewart laid down 11 tracks, including original cuts “Shameless Boogie,” “Groove in the Evening,” “Can’t Stop Thinking About You,” and “Piano Boogie,” plus an uncompromisingly killer version of “Evening.”
